Welcome! Thank you for stopping by.
At The Sorting School we promote psychological flexibility and psychological safety. We share trainings about trauma-informed approaches to assessment, planning, and instruction for all learners.
We call this The Sorting School because we've noticed that while we may not have the answers for everything, we're pretty sure we'll find a way to sort it out. We also have a simple visual tool that helps us sort, across environments and populations.
We met on a Zoom collaboration meeting that Tina put together for Behavior Consultation Facebook Group. Tina was noticing loneliness from the Pandemic shut down and figured other professionals might be noticing the same. She enthusiastically shared her experience with learning about ACT and The ACT Matrix and Monica quickly jumped on board for the journey.
We both saw the behavior analytic (functional contextual) point of view in The ACT Matrix and spent as much time as we could learning the process by applying it to our personal lives and professional work.
We began collaborating with each other on a regular basis about our experiences - sharing our ah-ha moments and sorting out our stuck spots.
One day, Tina said something to the effect of, "I think I figured out how to use these 4 squares for functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans, can I show you?"
On May 4, 2021, we presented our very first Behavior Talk Broadcast and put together 14 hours of training that used this thing we now call The Behavior Square.
At The Sorting School we promote psychological flexibility and psychological safety. We share trainings about trauma-informed approaches to assessment, planning, and instruction in the education field and advocate for imbedding psychological flexibility training in early education experiences to build resilience for overcoming adversity and facing obstacles through the lifespan.Click Here to Register For Our LIVE Workshops and Office Hours

Show Parents How to Analyze Behavior Using The Behavior Square (Lesson 7 of the 14 CEU Course)
We can't be with parents or stakeholders at every minute of the day - and they will need to make decisions without our presence. Through the visual process of The Behavior Square, we can equip parents and stakeholders with the knowledge to analyze behavior and respond (or not) depending on their aim, in the moment.
The Behavior Square with Behavior Talk (14 CEU Course)
Join Monica Peters and Tina Long for a 14 session CEU series. This course is appropriate for all levels of behavior analysts, teachers, and organization leaders, regardless of their environment, population, or target behaviors. This series utilizes a person first, trauma informed visual process to streamline each step of consultation to promote contextual fit, psychological flexibility, and psychological safety. Participants will acquire skills to apply the visual process across environments, populations, and behaviors with confidence, ease, and professionalism.
Using Behavior Analysis for Time Management: A 30 Minute Crash Course (0.5 BACB CEU)
We each have the same 24 hours in our day. We probably spend some of those hours sleeping, eating, going to the bathroom, and brushing our teeth. What do we do with the other hours of our day? Are the things we're doing working to get us to the life we're aiming for (or the day, or hour)? Whether you're looking for new tools to increase your own efficiency, or want a simple tool for your family or clients, this 30 minute workshop (split into easily digestible 5 minute sections) will give you the tools to quickly transform your time management.
The ACT Matrix Meets the FBA and BIP Matrix (Lesson 1 of the 14 CEU Behavior Square Course)
The horizontal and vertical lines of the ACT Matrix and The Behavior Square set up the Functional Contextual View of Human Behavior. This visual helps teams move towards flexible problem solving with simple language, while keeping the client first.
The Wisdom to Know The Difference - (Lesson 11 of the 14 CEU Behavior Square Course)
Sometimes we can't eliminate all of the aversives, and sometimes we can't control access to all of the appetitives. Using a visual process, we can sort these out during consultation to inform our assessments and interventions. 1 BACB CEU
